I'm Begging You: Don't Take This Job!

Description:

There are a couple key questions that should be asked during every interview that provides invaluable insight into a candidate's suitability.

Content:

Thad Greer

In his book “Straight from the Gut,” former CEO of General Electric, Jack Welch, says that when interviewing candidates the most important question you should ask is: “Why did you leave (or why are you considering leaving) your last/most recent position?” He states that the answer to this question is not only a precursor of future behavior, but also gives you, the hiring manager, valuable insight as to candidate's thought process when making important decisions. So if money is the only factor luring them away from their current position, chances are they'll leave their new position when a better offer comes along. I don’t disagree with this line of reasoning; I’m fortunate to have experienced firsthand the inter-workings of a Welch-run organization (he was my boss for four years, having cut my teeth with the appliance division right out of college). I think GE does a terrific job identifying and developing management talent. An important part of their corporate culture is to promote from within, made easier by the fact that they have a massive workforce of people to choose from. However, with job-hopping becoming more and more prevalent (and professionally acceptable), I don’t feel the answer to that question gives you enough information about the candidate and his or her career expectations. When your work for an organization the size of GE and switch jobs every eighteen months you’re considered ambitious, but when you switch companies with a high degree of regularity in order to improve your situation you’re viewed as being flaky and indecisive.

Having been part of numerous interviewing teams at GE, one of the questions we often asked (straight out of the Interviewing 101 Handbook) was “What do you see yourself doing five years from now?” At the time I didn’t place much weight on the candidate’s response (unless it was totally something out of left field) because this question typically elicited a generic, corporate answer that rarely influenced me one way or another. I’ve always believed that if you have the ability to bring significant value to an organization then people are going to recognize it and new opportunities will present themselves all the time. So how could you know what you’re going to be doing five years from now any more than you know who’s going to be calling you on the phone in the next five minutes? This is not an invalid question; however, I don’t think the average candidate knows how to appropriately answer it nor do I think the average interviewer knows what they should be looking for in the candidate’s response. This is an essay/take-home question; one that requires an honest and thorough self-analysis and the off-the-cuff answer generally does not provide any insight worth considering during the evaluation process.

So the one question I always ask when interviewing candidates is essentially a hybrid of those two. It does a great job of opening up a targeted dialogue, one that gives me a broad perspective of the candidate’s accomplishments and expectations and helps me draw conclusions about their career path and overall potential. I ask, “Can you walk me through the last 5 years of your career?” This gives you a range of information as opposed to just focusing on their last position. For example, it doesn’t necessarily raise a red flag for me when I hear someone say they didn’t get along with their immediate supervisor or that they disagreed with the overall direction of the company. However, if they didn’t get along with the last three supervisors they worked for then we’re establishing an alarming pattern. Jobs are not forever and for most of us the days of going to work for one company and staying there rest of our career are over with. That being said, I like to establish a realistic timeframe for employment longevity in a particular role when conducting a search, both with my client and the candidates. Typically, it’s in the three to five year range. So the follow-up question that I ask all viable candidates is, “Were you to accept this position, is this a role you feel you would enjoy doing every day for the next five years?” If you have done your job as a recruiter (or hiring manager) and provided the candidate with a thorough overview of the position and its expectations, then the timeliness of their response will tell you everything you need to know about how they view the position’s long-term potential. It is particularly insightful when you ask this question in a face-to-face setting, because it’s typically not one that candidates are used to hearing. An immediate “Absolutely!” is a good sign. Raised eyebrows and a pensive look are not. Keep in mind that this is not a qualifying question: it’s a dis-qualifying question. An affirmative response does not carry anywhere near as much weight as a negative one does. Remember, most people are not fired or displaced from their jobs; they leave on their own free will. Odds are your employees are going to leave you before you decide it’s time for them to leave. So when you have a candidate that visibly shows hesitation at this question, or gives some indication that restlessness is likely set in after a period of time, then it’s time to wrap up the interview and move on to the next person.

Job Search Warts . . . The Dirty Little Secret That Can Sink You!

Description:

Back in the day your efforts at obfuscation may have flown. But not any more. We're living in an era where your background is going to checked and challenged. Be prepared!

Content:

Everyone has job search warts!

You know what I'm talking about . . . those job search warts that are defects in your background. The ones that worry you when you're looking for a new job.

For example, you may have been fired. Or your career has plateaued or stagnated. Maybe you've been underpaid or out of work for awhile. Or you've been arrested. Or maybe you're embarrassed because you're not competitive with other job candidates.

It could be a hundred different things that you hope an interviewer won't ask about. And we try very hard to hide it in your resume. Or just plain lie about it.

Back in the day your efforts at obfuscation may have flown. But not any more. We're living in an era where your background is going to checked and challenged. Even your credit and bank account are subject to scrutiny not to mention your health record.

So you better go in prepared to address your job search warts. Or risk being passed over.

One of the first things you must understand when you're considering a job search is that there is no such thing as the perfect candidate . . . for any job.

You see, we all tend to be defensive about what we DON'T have going for us . . . our problem areas, liabilities, defects, etc. In short, our job search warts. The bad news is that we screen ourselves out of opportunities by concentrating on those aspects that are mismatched rather than those which could make a contribution.

Hiring managers repeatedly tell us that they never turn away a candidate because he/she doesn't have EXACTLY what they're looking for. They understand that frequently a candidate will have other valuable capabilities they weren't looking for.

These hiring decision-makers report that if they have an exceptional candidate in front of them they tend to reshape the job. In business this goes on all the time.

If you think you will be screened out because you don't exactly fit an organization's qualification like a glove, you're sadly mistaken. Most organizations are on a fishing expedition when they are looking for a job candidate.

It's important to realize that if you suffer from job search warts (as everyone does) your candidacy is not sunk. The mistake we make is to turn defensive if a liability is pointed out to us.

But when we get defensive we come across like a wimp -- unsure of ourselves, lacking in self-esteem, backpedaling and sometimes being downright argumentative.

So, remember . . . everyone has warts! Most employers know this and are more interested in learning what you can contribute than what you can't. Be prepared for the tough questions. But be even better prepared to show ways you can make a difference to the organization.

7 Tips For Choosing The Best Home-Based Business For You

Description:

A simple guide to help would-be entrepreneurs, small business owners in choosing the best home-based businesses that have international market, low start-up cost, low risk, easy to do.

Content:

If you are looking for the best home-based business for you, then you have probably already come across amazing promises and extraordinary hype. How can you know what is real and what is a scam?

There are different types of home businesses you can consider, however the best home-based business for a novice is a good network marketing program with a solid company that has a good track record and ethical product. The difficulty is finding the right company and product for you and avoiding those companies that really only see you as another person to purchase and sing their praises. It has been noted over time that many network marketing companies run their show like good old-time religion and, unless you want your business to control your life, you might want to avoid them.

Here are 7 tips to help you choose the best home-based business for you:

1. Does The Company Have A Good Reputation? The internet is spawning new businesses by the minute. Anyone can put up a shingle on the net with little capital behind them. It is not that difficult to present a polished image that has no real substance. So it is very important to do your homework. How long has the company been in business? Research the background and achievements of the management team and also look for bad press. What are the complaints? Do an internet search using the company name plus scam or fraud. If you get a lot of matches, consider that a red flag and avoid the company. A news search can also reveal important information about the company.

2. Is The Product Genuine, Ethical, Of A High Quality And Needed Regularly? Is there credible, documentary evidence proving the quality of the product? Do customers commit to use and re-order the product monthly? These questions are very important to help you decide on the best home-based business for you. If a product is in high demand and needs to be re-ordered monthly, then it offers an excellent business opportunity. This is particularly apparent with health products such as mangosteen juice.

3. Entry Costs. How much does it cost to sign up for the business? Is this payment refundable? What guarantees are given by the company? Do you have to purchase a starter kit containing products or is everything done via the internet and brochures etc? There are enough network marketing companies that have a low entry cost, so you really do not need to take the risk with high entry fees. Apart from the entry costs, it is important to consider the overall start up costs. Do you have to pay for advertising, stationery, training or anything else in order to start earning income? Opt for a program with minimal start up costs because this means minimal risks.

4. Conditions Of Earning. Some companies require you to personally spend a certain amount every month in order to qualify for sales commissions. You need to understand these conditions before signing up. If your purchasing requirements are for example, $100 per week, then you need to make sure you are not working just to cover your own products. Remember the whole idea is to run a profitable business. Try and find legitimate evidence of income from other people so that you know you can do it too.

5. Inventory. Does the company drop-ship directly to customers or do you need to keep inventory? This is an important consideration because if you need to purchase stock and manage a business in this way, it can be time consuming and limit your earning potential. Try to find a company that will send the product directly to the customer for you.

6. Training And Support. Choose a business that offers good training and support for you and excellent customer support for your customers. Poor customer service can undo all your excellent work to build your customer base so make sure that the company has an excellent reputation for service, not just a lot of empty promises. If possible, contact people who have been with the company for some length of time and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of signing up with the company from their point of view. Personal recommendations and comments are a valuable source of information.

7. Easy To Do. The best home-based business opportunity for you will be easy to do. This does not mean you will not have to work at it, but it does mean the system will not be complicated and involve time-consuming tasks that do not make you money. Before deciding on the right company for you, get an overall understanding of how their system works. It may or may not be for you.

There are many reasons people want to work for themselves and are looking for just the right business opportunity that will allow them to do this. Some may wish to work from home to be with their children, yet still need to earn an income. Others may have suffered financial reversals and need desperately to create a new income stream. There are people who are in jobs that just do not pay enough and want to supplement their income with a home-based business opportunity. Whatever the reason for seeking the best home-based business opportunity, if you follow the tips given in this article, you have a good chance of starting off on the right foot with the best product and company for you.

Job Trend News: Home and Workplace Blur

Description:

Many organizations are taking the best aspects of home and incorporating them into the workplace. They are recognizing that work is becoming home for many employees.

Content:

New job trends can make a huge difference in your career advancement. Staying on top of the latest job trends can mean a faster and more lucrative career move.

For example, we're all familiar with the trend of working from home--at least for a few hours a week. Many computer-driven businesses are seeing productivity advances by encouraging certain types of work from home.

Well there is another trend that can impact your job . . . bringing the advantages of home to the workplace.

Many organizations are taking the best aspects of home and incorporating them into the workplace. They are recognizing that work is becoming home for many employees.

For instance, 46 of the 100 best companies offer take-home meals to liberate workers from having to cook dinner. Or how about this: 26 of those 100 companies offer personal concierge services. This allows employees to outsource the details of buying flowers and birthday presents . . . or planning anniversary parties or bar mitzvahs.

Why?

Organizations are finding that providing such options makes bottom line sense:

1. It's all part of the ongoing search for top talent. Offering these amenities is proving to be a strong recruitment tool.

2. It's all about productivity. Companies find that they can relieve employees' anxieties. Providing services or managing events that could distract them from their work focus increases their productivity.

You owe it to yourself to check these trends out. They may already exist with your current employer. But if you're in the job market, negotiating these items can give your personal bottom line a serious boost.

Home Business - Various Options Explored

Description:

This article discusses the various options available to people who intend to set up a home business.

Content:

Many people are realizing the benefits of having a home based business these days. Due to rising costs and uncertain jobs, it is always beneficial to have an additional source of income at hand. In fact, people have become conscious of the fact that one can earn more from the home based business than from a full-time job.

The question which arises at this point is – what are the various options available for setting up a home business and which is the most feasible one?

The fact of the matter is – there is no single home business which can be said to be the best alternative for all people. The type of business that must be chosen by a person depends on the type of skills he possesses. The start up fees that a person can invest to set up a home based business is also another crucial factor to be taken into account.

If you possess expertise in a particular area, you could very well turn it into your first home business by providing services to clients in your area of expertise. This was what one usually recognizes as ‘freelancing’. Freelancing can be done in different areas like writing, programming, data entry, designing, etc. This is a very profitable business considering the fact that you can make money with what ever knowledge you already possess. Also, it requires just a minimal investment of setting up a website.

The second option is to take up Internet Marketing (IM). Here, you take a product of some other company, and promote it by acting as their agent. To be frank, what you get from selling their products will be your commission. To exceed in this business, you will need to have a clear idea of internet and marketing through internet. You don’t need to pay anything to the company in most cases, but you just need to get a website for this business also.

The third option is selling niche products. Niche products are those which are in demand in the market at that instant of time. These can either be physical or informative products. Selling niche products is a part of IM to be honest.

The next thing you could possibly do is sell items on eBay. If you believe that you possess a unique product or service, you could set it up on eBay for sale. Many people have made a fortune by selling products through eBay auctions.

If you think you are not good with the online stuff, then you can think of something offline. For instance, you could join as an agent with some offline company and sell their products. There are a number of companies will provide such opportunities to you. But in contrast to online affiliate programs, which you can start for free, you need to pay a registration fees to become an agent with the offline companies.

Setting Up Your Home Business

Description:

Many people who work for employees dream about setting up their own home business that will provide them the freedom to do as they like and not have to take orders from their boss and keep regular hours. We will review some of the requirements of setting up your own home business and let the reader decide what is most appropriate for them in terms of advantages and disadvantages.

Content:

Many people who work for employees dream about setting up their own business that will provide them the freedom to do as they like and not have to take orders from their boss and keep regular hours. These thoughts are a bit idealistic at times since most people will consider all of the positive elements and ignore the items that may be considered by some as a negative. We will review some of the requirements of setting up your own home business and let the reader decide what is most appropriate for them in terms of advantages and disadvantages.

Anyone setting up a business will need a combination of personality traits as well as physical items that will come together to make them successful. Since this article is a general one and readers may be thinking of all sorts of home businesses, they will need to adapt some of the areas discussed to their business idea.

Physically you will need a space in your home to operate your home business. There must be sufficient room to handle all aspects of your activities; operators will need communications, which can include phone, fax, mobile, and office equipment. You will require room to store your supplies; finished goods and customer orders ready to be shipped. Small business operators who operate communications and computer equipment should also think about power requirements and specifically stability of their power.

Many prospective business owners are enthused with their plans and fail to take a hard look at the true business aspects. Is there a market for your business, is there sufficient revenue that can be generated, what is the competition like, what are the cost and expenses of producing your product and shipping it to your customer, what are the costs to support your product for the customer and so on. In other words a complete business case that will support your initiative into the arena of small business operations is needed before you take that leap and invest a great deal of time and money in something that may or may not be profitable.

The last aspect is one of the most important elements that many people never consider. Do they have the personality and drive to develop, operate and run a small business. Many people leave a nine to five job expecting to work the same way only to find that they need to put many more hours into the business to get it operating successfully. Customers call at all hours and there are problems to resolve and the only time to resolve them is after hours. In short you need to have the drive and stamina to get your small business though the initial years when times are tough.

Applying some of these ideas and thoughts to your plans for home business ideas will no doubt give you pause, however if thought through carefully will also position new entrepreneurs for success!

Internet Marketing For Rookies

Description:

This article talks about Internet Marketing and promotion. It explains the effective ways to market.

Content:

Publishing Permission Statement:
This article may be freely published in your newsletter, ezine, magazine, website, or in your e-Book, as long as you keep my byline and resource box intact with a clickable link back to http://www.affiliate-free-ebook.com

Hello, my name is Joe Terceira and I'm about to reveal a few methods of Internet Marketing. This article is great for everyone, but better suited for Internet Marketing Rookies. Now when I say this, I hope you as a rookie don't take offence to that because I myself was once a rookie. It takes a lot of trial & error before you can understand how these big time multi-millionaire Internet Marketers earn thousands and even millions of dollars selling products and or services over the Internet every single year. They don't have a hundred million dollar secret that no one knows about. They just perfected a way to maximize there advertising efforts very quickly and efficiently.

A wise man once told me that in order to succeed at something, you had to learn what doesn't work before you can understand what does. By knowing what doesn't work, you shave countless hours off of your Internet Marketing practices. It took me a long time to understand this theory but I did figure it out. I started to make mental notes of the things I had done that went unsuccessful, and made sure those things never happened again. I realized I had to start paying attention to all the small things that I thought were irrelevant, and implement those things into my day to day operations. Before I knew it, I had almost tripled the visitors I had in 1 month in an incredible 24 hours. That was a huge eye opener. So let's get into a few things that I have learned just don't work or how they work:

Free Advertising:
Some people say this is the easiest way to advertise especially for Internet Marketing newbie's, but I say that is a load of bull. Free advertising has proved time and time again to be a waste of time especially when your advertising your main products. Let me explain how it does work and how you can turn this secret into a huge advertising machine.
What you should be doing is advertising a free service or product on these free advertising sites. Everyone who visits these sites won't click on anything unless it has the word free attached to it. That's why you're not getting visitors. The product I have found to work the best is giving away a free eBook. I have developed one that you can use for your advertising efforts. Just visit my website below to pick up a free copy. I currently generate over 5000 leads per week using this method and some of my business associates average about the same. I simply advertise this free eBook on all free advertising sites and the response is overwhelming. Then I turn these free customers into paying customers. That is how I get this method to work. Do not advertise your main products or services or you will suffer dearly.

Banner Exchanges:
Banner Exchanges is another ineffective way to advertise unless you have a huge developed downline. When you join these banner exchanges you simply add there banner to your website and they add your banner to there website. Whenever a new banner appears on your site, you gain credits for your banner to appear on one of there network sites. Now until you build your banner affiliate network you will be wasting time opening and closing your browsers. Refer 10 people who each refer 10 and so and before you know it your banner is appearing in thousands of websites. Now again, don't attach your banners to your main product websites. These people who are viewing them are also people who are interested in free advertising so they won't click on your banner unless it attracts is says free! Attach your banners to your free products or my free eBook and then follow up and make the sale once you have there information.

Ezine Ads:
Advertising in an ezine or newsletter is an effective way to gain website visitors. If you have not been exposed to this yet, it is time to get exposed. Type ezine or newsletter into any major search engine and you will come up with hundreds of thousands of listings. To put it in terms that you'll understand, basically someone owns a list of email addresses and provides them with great quality content. They also include ads with the content. Some charge a fee for this and others allow free postings. But like the 2 above advertising methods, the best way is once again advertising your free products or eBooks. This is truly an effective advertising method and you will see massive results instantly if you follow these guidelines.

Internet Sales Letter Magic

Description:

Imagine spending thousands of dollars on web design, bells, whistles, a flash intro, and an array of colors. Firstly, this is a big waste of time, money, and effort. Also, this is like building a gaudy and non-functional house without a foundation. Your web site is a key sales tool. Fortunately, web sites do not have to be pretty in order to be effective.

In the above-mentioned case, no forethought is given to the first step in building a web site. The first and most important part of web site construction is your cover page, sales process, and the least expensive ways to send targeted traffic to your web site.

Unless your web site is just a "hobby," it should function as an automated 24-hour sales person, seven days per week. Your Internet sales letter is much more than a business card or company brochure. A properly constructed sales letter is a separate entity and can possibly close sales by itself.

When you have an idea about a great Internet product or service, have researched the demand, have chosen the best URL, and developed an outline of your proposed site - your next step should be to develop an award-winning sales letter. This proposed sales letter should be packed with unique content that drives visitors to you and captures their interest.

Your sales letter should thoroughly describe the benefits of your product or service. At the same time, your product or service should solve a problem that your potential clients have encountered. Therefore, any successful sales letter will have to fulfill a genuine need.

The right sales letter should develop trust from the very start and tell an interesting story along the way. This is not a guarantee of an instant sale, but the start of a relationship - built on credibility and trust. Your prospects visit your site because your product or service has "sparked" an interest.

Prospects visit your site for a multitude of reasons - but do you know why? Do you know the top reasons why your existing customers choose you, over your competition? This knowledge is essential when constructing a sales letter for your web site.

Lastly, when deciding how to construct your sales letter, you have many choices, but choose wisely and research your choices. If you decide to hire a sales copy writer, make sure his or her previous works have produced results or are persuasive in content. If you decide to purchase the least expensive writer available, do not expect good results. When seeking out a sales copy writer, you will get what you pay for.

The Risks Involved In Making Money From Home

Description:

There are risks involved when starting a home money making business, and if you are aware of these risks, then with careful planning, you can avoid some problems you may encounter along the way.

Content:

Making money from home is definitely a dream many of us share. Why work for someone else when you can work for yourself, set your own hours, and call all the shots?

The trouble is that dream-seekers like this often jump into a "make money from home" program without thinking about all the risks involved. For example, do you have a good enough skill base for the business you are considering?

Are you getting into a home business just for some quick money without enjoying the work that's involved in that business?

There are risks involved when starting a home money making business, and if you are aware of these risks, then with careful planning, you can avoid some problems you may encounter along the way.

Your ability to succeed at your business and start making real money from home is directly related to your ability to prepare yourself according to your talents as well as your business needs for any situation that may arise.

Doing something you are both good at and love to do is so important because when you try to start making money from home, it doesn't happen magically as much as we'd like it to.

The risk is that it takes time, effort, energy, and a little money to sustain a business over time. You have to be prepared to be in it for the long haul if you wish to succeed, and it will be so much easier to stick with something that you love to work at.

Another risk in owning a business and making money from home is where you are situated. Would you rather work at home, for example, or would you rather buy or rent a separate building or space for your business and choose an appropriate area? You have to consider your life circumstances and also where you will get the most business.

It's also wise to think about what you are giving up when you leave the rat race. You can get some decent benefits in the workplace, and it's a bit of a risk to lose those when trying to make money from home.

Because of this risk, it's a good idea to think about insuring your business in as many ways as you can, and knowing who will take over when you can no longer run your business. Be prepared by knowing who also loves doing what you are doing and will succeed like you can.

Most things in life worth having involve some kind of risk. The trick is to plan and be prepared by setting goals. This will give you confidence and a positive attitude that will carry you through to success when making money from home.

Don't forget too that it's important to take a breather every now and then and step away from the business to re-evaluate things and get a clear view of your progress and if you are really making money from home, or losing too much.

Then, when things are going wrong, you can make some changes to make things work again. If things still aren't working, then maybe it's time to educate yourself about things you haven't been doing and know little about that could help you make money from home.

You can learn a lot on your own, but it's also wise to seek help from those who are already in the position you want to be in their businesses. A little guidance from a pro can go a long way.

Starting a business and making money from home can be a scary and intimidating thing, but with a little elbow grease and organization, you can conquer your fears about all the risks involved and have a good chance at success.

Nursing Scholarship: Men In The Minority

Where are the scholarships for men in going into the field of nursing? Far and few between in comparison to those that are offered for women and minorities. Wait a minute. Men are the new minority in nursing. Therefore men should take advantage of the minority scholarships that are available.

Where are the scholarships for men in going into the field of nursing? Far and few between in comparison to those that are offered for women and minorities. Wait a minute. Men are the new minority in nursing. Therefore men should take advantage of the minority scholarships that are available. Better yet if you are a man with an ethnic minority. So how does a man go about looking for a scholarship for nursing school and where do you begin. There is a most wonderful nursing scholarship just for men which is offered by the American Assembly for Men Foundation Scholarships. Their web address is; www.aamn.org/aamnfoundationscholarships. This would be the first place to begin. Next, would be to take advantage of all of the minority nursing school scholarships that are available. The web address for minority nurses can be found at the web address; www.minoritynurse.com

Let's face it, as a man you are indeed a minority in the nursing field. Men represent only about 6% of those in the nursing field according to (www.menstuff.org). Actually, men in the nursing field is not new. Men have been nurses since the time prior to the Benedictine Monks in the fifth century. More and more literature is surfacing in regards to men in the nursing field. There is currently a magazine dedicated just for male nurses entitled Male Nurse Magazine. You can learn more from the site at; www.malenursemagazine.com

The first nursing school in the world was started in India in about 250 BC. Only men were considered "pure" enough to become nurses. The Charaka (Vol I, Section xv) states these men should be, "of good behavior, distinguished for purity, possessed of cleverness and skill, imbued with kindness, skilled in every service a patient may require, competent to cook food, skilled in bathing and washing the patient, rubbing and massaging the limbs, lifting and assisting him to walk about, well skilled in making and cleansing of beds, readying the patient and skillful in waiting upon one that is ailing and never unwilling to do anything that may be ordered." Source Information

During the Byzantine Empire nursing was a separate occupation practiced primarily by men. In the New Testament, the good Samaritan paid the innkeeper to provide care for an injured man. No one thought it odd that a man should by paid to provide nursing care. Story of the Good Samaritan found at: Luke 10: 35-36 Source Information

Men first began to enter the nursing profession in the late 1950's. Today, approximately 5.4% of the 2.2 million nurses are men. However, a 2000 survey found that almost 13% of the students enrolled in nursing school are men. Dwight Elliott is the only black male in his graduating class at East Carolina University. "It has been kind of tough being a black male in a predominantly white female profession." Another black male nurse said that he had gotten questions like "Are you an orderly?" There are certain areas in hospitals (such as labor and delivery and nursing units) that are still closed to most male nurses. However, Ramon Lavandero, Director of the International Leadership Institute of Sigma Theta Tau International, had a very positive experience working in obstetrics. He was offered three positions in women's health care after graduation. The American Assembly of Men in Nursing is a fairly new organization which is open to both men and women who share "our beliefs that nursing is a profession, not a gender-based profession," said Gene Tranbarger, President-Elect of the organization. Source Information

The above excerpts should inspire confidence if anything to those men who are contemplating becoming nurses. At www.nurselookup.com is a good site to go for men to talk about nursing issues and nursing school. This is a type of chat room for the male nursing student and other medical personnel.

Strategic Alliances Boost Sales

Description:

Closing more sales. This is a popular topic. We've come along way since the "hard sell" and the manipulative closing techniques and tricks that used to work so well, so long ago...

Content:

Two business owners met in a pub in Seattle in late January of this year. We'll call them Barry and Bob to protect their identity. I had met with Bob to discuss increasing sales in his office furniture business and given him an idea to use. He had identified Barry as a potential Joint Venture partner for this marketing system and arranged a meeting.

Bob's offer went something like this:

"Barry, we both sell good office furniture and we both offer great service. You're not to far away from where I am based, as you know, and I have an idea to run by you. What is your average closing ratio? In other words, out of every ten people you pitch, how many buy from you?"

Bob replied that he sold about two in ten.

"So, Barry, what do you do with the other eight prospects? It cost you good marketing money to find them, and they all have an urgent need for office furniture, and they can afford it, or you wouldn't be talking with them. If they leave your store, they're going to buy somewhere else, right?"

"You're right, Bob. What do you suggest, Bob?"

"I suggest that you say to everyone who doesn't buy from you, 'I'm so sorry I couldn't help you today. I know you're serious about getting some office furniture right away, and I hate to waste your valuable time, so I'm going to call a good friend of mine who offers equally good products and service to what I do, and ask him to meet with you and see if he can help you.' Then you call me and set up an appointment with your prospect. I'll do the same for you. That way, Barry, we each get to see 18 prospects instead of 10! I see your pre-sold prospects and you see mine!"

Since they instituted this simple, yet effective system, both Barry and Bob have seen significant increases in their sales figures, at absolutely no cost or risk. Try it in your business; work WITH your "competition", and make more money!

The Urgency Of An Entry Level Cover Letter

Content:

There are many people out to seek for the best employment opportunities being offered. It is the natural thing to do to provide the best application so that one can easily stand out and have an edge in the process. Most employers will look at the skills and credentials. Of course, they give big weight to experience too. This is the best way to ensure that a newly-hired employee can adjust quickly to the work setting and contribute to the company.

However, not all applicants have the experience they need for a position. Some will even have no work experience at all. These are the entry level applicants. If you are one of these entry level job hunters, then it is best to come up with a more specialized cover letter in your application form.

A Must to Have an Entry Level Cover Letter

It is very mandatory for someone who does not have a work experience to have an entry level cover letter. This is a way to ensure that you will not be overlooked despite the lack of work experience to emphasize that such a fact does not amount to lack of skills and knowledge needed for the position.

Thus, it pays to have the entry level cover letter to highlight more the aspects that will make your application for stand out so you can land a job interview. This will focus on the relevant skills, qualifications and interests that will make the applicant just as competent as an experienced applicant.

Tips on Making the Good Entry Level Cover Letter

Being on the entry level is not an excuse to make a mediocre cover letter. There is no way to take lightly your task of giving a quality cover letter to make a good impression. Thus, it is best to always keep in mind that you need to use the essental elements to make the cover letter stand out as it stays professional.

Be DIRECT and FORMAL in the way you address the letter. It is not enough that you have a format for a professional letter. You must put in information that shows you know what you are doing. It is crucial that you put the name of the right officer in the company. Do not rely on the usual format of "To Whom It May Concern." Being that impersonal may impress that you have not done the task of researching about the company.

GRAB ATTENTION by making use of a headline statement in the entry level cover letter. It is also helpful to use bullet points on things that you want to highlight. This way, the hiring officer will have an easier time of reading the contents of your cover letter. It is not helpful to beat around the bush in your application.

It is very crucial to also EMPHASIZE on your selling points. Make sure that you provide the skills, knowledge, interests and personality traits that you possess that will be useful to the position. Even if you do not have the formal work experience at hand, your certain traits can give you an edge, especially if it is needed in the position.

Finally, do not be afraid to show how PASSIONATE you feel for the job. The eagerness to learn and being up to the task is very important to employers. You can give yourself this plus point in the entry level cover letter.

Conclusion

Take the courage to come up with a strong cover letter. Being on the entry level should not stop you from making one.

ResourceMFG Minnesota Grand Opening July 26th

Content:

Thursday July 26th from 11:30am-1:30pm, Michael Farren, Certified Staffing Professional and the Area Manager for the newest ResourceMFG office, will host a Grand Opening Luncheon located at 1922 Cliff Rd. E Burnsville, Minnesota. According to Farren, “Anyone in the manufacturing industry that uses staffing currently or has wanted to but didn’t think a traditional staffing service knew enough about their industry, or any manufacturing company that is using a service and feels they are not getting the service and quality they should be, must attend this event.”

The newest ResourceMFG branch will allow Minnesota manufacturing organizations a dedicated industry specific resource to find qualified candidates. During the Grand Opening lunch, executives, including Farren will be speaking to manufacturing experts about their staffing.

According to Farren, "Minnesota manufacturing has not been well-served by staffing organizations because current staffing services are trying to be everything to everyone. We are specializing in manufacturing and that is all we do. Our staff either comes from manufacturing or is trained extensively in manufacturing. We know what are strengths are and we focus only on those. The Grand Opening is designed to introduce the community to RMFG and let all manufacturing companies know that we are here for them and that we understand what they are looking for. So many other services are out there but are not completely focused on one industry like we are.”

Those wishing to RSVP for the Grand Opening may do so via email at Michael.Farren@resourcemfg.com

ResourceMFG (www.resourcemfg.com) is involved with the total spectrum of manufacturing positions including production, quality, maintenance, supervision, and all levels of management. The company serves a wide variety of industry segments that include automotive, electronic, machining, sheet metal, fabrication, and many other specialized producers.

How To Give Yourself A Professional Manicure

Description:

Every girl loves that feeling of gorgeous salon nails.

Content:

Every girl loves that feeling of gorgeous salon nails. If only we had the time and the money to go to the salon as often as we would like! With this ten step manicure guide, you can have gorgeous nails that only you (and maybe a few of your closest girlfriends if they can keep a secret!) know weren't done by a professional at a beauty salon.

You will need a Pack of cotton balls, some Paper towels / Makeup removal pads, Nail polish remover, some good quality Nail polish, a Nail file / Emery board, a Nail trimmer, and a Cuticle remover.

1. Preparing your Nails

Whether you have nail polish on already or not, the first step in a manicure is to wash your fingernails thoroughly in warm water. You should pay particular attention to underneath your nail cartilage. Whilst you are doing your nails check for any redness or irritation. If there is any redness or irriation you will need to stop and get your nails checked out.

2. Removing Nail Polish

Apply some nail polish remover to a cotton ball. Then you need to press this onto the nail to soften the polish. Now wipe the nail gently using the cotton ball. Start from the base and work towards the tip of the nail. By working from base to tip, you avoid smearing any of the old polish into the cuticle. Apply the nail polish remover to each of your nails until they are back to their natural colour.

3. Trimming your Nails

If you need to shorten your nails or reshape them, you will need to use pair of nail clippers or nail scissors. These should be small clippers, which are designed to fit your nail shape. You will probably need to trim your fingernails about once a month. When you trim them, do not trim them right up to where your nail meets your skin, this can make it receed!

4. Filing your Nails

To file down any rough surfaces on your nails and make them smooth, you will need an emery board or a nai file. An emery board is used for the tips of your nails, rather than the top. Using the emery board you should file the tips at an angle, so that most of the filing occurs on the under side of the nail. When filing each finger nail you should file from the corner of the nail towards the centre, making sure that you only file in the one direction for each side of the nail (don't refile an area in the opposite direction). Keep filing until they are a smooth consistent shape.

5. Removing Cuticles

Your cuticle is the layer of soft skin at the bottom of your nail, where your skin and your fingernail meet. When your fingernails grow, the cuticle stretches with it. Removing cuticles, or rather pushing the cuticle skin back keeps your nails healthy, and encourages your nails to grow.

Your cuticles need to be softened in a bowl of warm water. Then, with your cuticle remover, gently push back all your cuticles one at a time to leave smooth cuticle free nails. Pushing your cuticles back should not hurt, if it does you may need to see a doctor. If your cuticles don't soften easily, you may need to use cuticle remover cream before pushing them back. Once you have pushed them back, wipe your nails clean of any cuticle that has come loose.

6. Resting your Nails

For those that regularly polish their nails, you should try and let your nails breathe naturally for a couple of days in between polishes. Doing this helps to keep your nails healthy. Worth noting is that tapping your nails on a hard surface on a regular basis can promote nail growth.

7. Choosing a Colour

This may sound a little patronising, but don't forget when you are choosing a colour of nail polish, it is going to be on your nails for a while. So you may want to plan the shade your put on around the outfits you are planning to wear in the near future!

8. Applying Nail Polish

Your nail polish should come with its own applicator. Before applying the nail polish, you need to get rid of any excess nail polish from the applicator. Now, with a steady hand, brush from the base of your fingernails up towards to the tip of your nail using long strokes. Make sure you apply it evenly to each nail.

If you make a mistake, don't worry. Taking a paper towel or makeup removal pad, apply some polish remover to any excess polish, then reapply nail polish as applicable. If you really need to, you can always remove all the polish from the nail and start again.

9. Applying a Second Coat

Between applying your first coat and your second, you should wait about ten minutes. Some nail polishes dry much quicker, but it is always better to leave them for longer than necessary than risk applying a second coat before the first has dried properly. As tempting as it can be to try and speed up the drying process with a fan, this can actually cause the nail polish to move around a little and make the finish less even.

10. Apply Lotion

Once your nails are completely dry, apply lotion to moisturise around your nails.

Now you can sit back and admire them!

As a beginner survey taker, you must have come across dozens of surveys that only give out free stuff or enter you into lottery drawings. Many survey takers get disinterested in taking surveys, because they wish to get cash, instead of prizes. The major misunderstanding among newbie survey takers is that a survey site that gives out prizes does not give out cash. Read more to learn what to do to take more Paid Surveys for cash.

Paid surveys are only one of the many paid programs that are now available in the web space. Incentivized advertising comes in different forms, but surveys should not be confused with spam or direct marketing. Free online Surveys are launched by market research companies that collect and analyze consumer feedback for the purposes of merchandisers and service companies that need to remain competitive on the market. In order to stimulate people to respond to the surveys, companies distribute various rewards and bonuses in cash or in freebies. What determines whether you get a free item or cash payment for surveys?

Surveys are easy to complete for survey takers, but before they reach you, survey designers carefully prepare and design the survey format and structure. Moreover, the target audience of surveys differs substantially – each survey targets a different consumer segment. This is so, because you may expect the group of people who buy diapers or cat food to be somehow different from the group of people who buy mortgage plans. Even though some people may buy both diapers and cat food, and mortgage plans, they will be significantly less than the people who will buy only diapers and mortgage plans, but not cat food, for examples. Therefore, surveys must be designed to reflect these differences. Whether a survey is more or less complicated also means whether a survey will bring a more or a less attractive reward.

What to do to be able to take more surveys for cash? You should keep in mind that survey companies have a mix of survey incentives that apply to different surveys. If the survey is really simple, for instance – a one-page survey that asks you about your favorite color, you should expect that the incentive is more likely to be an entry into a lottery drawing, rather than $10 cash. However, if the survey asks you to evaluate a particular purchase of an electric appliance that you made in the past 6 months, there might be less survey respondents from the whole mailing list who will be eligible to complete it. Therefore, the incentive for such a survey might be cash, instead of prizes. However, it takes more than just waiting for the surveys that you’ll be eligible for to get cash from paid surveys.

Another trick that newbie survey takers may not know purely from taking surveys is that the initial surveys that companies send to newly subscribed respondents are usually surveys that give out prizes, rather than cash. Companies need responsible and reliable survey takers that will supply them with adequate and realistic feedback. Therefore, there is some degree of selection process matching the highest-pay surveys with the most reliable and outstanding survey respondents. Therefore, to maximize your chances to earn cash, you should go through the initial stages when you’ll get simple surveys that pay out less that you wish. Being patient and persistent is what will eventually get you to where you desire to be – to the highest-payout surveys.

“laser Project Focus – the Key to Success”

Description:

Think multitasking is the way to accomplish several tasks at once? Think again. Multitasking can hurt your Internet business in more ways then one.

Content:

Are you overwhelmed by projects? Do new project ideas distract you from projects that you are currently working on? Do you have trouble finishing projects? If so then you need to understand the power of laser project focus.

Often you are overwhelmed because you work on too many projects at one time. Most projects should be able to bring in money within 30 days of project initiation. If you work on four projects simultaneously then it will take longer for you to start making any money. It is better to focus on one project at a time as you will earn actual money sooner.

In theory, if you work on four projects at then same time that each take 30 days to complete then it will take you 120 days before you actually see any money!

Essentially, multitasking causes you to lose focus and momentum. Multitasking means that you have a to-do list. For example, you start working on a sales letter and then an instant message pops up. You become distracted and roam all over the Internet. By the end of the day you haven’t accomplished anything! This can cause a delay of several months before you make any money at all!

When are you typically most efficient? Right before the deadline! Most people make the most progress the 24 hours before their website goes live because they are laser focused. Apply this laser focus from the beginning by focusing on one project at a time.

Laser focus takes a little discipline, but is achievable. Focus on one thing at time so you can make money sooner. You become a “finisher”, not just a “project starter”. Ideas can be the biggest distraction to what you are working on right now.

The following factors will help you determine which project to focus on:
1) Passion for project
2) Return on investment
3) How soon can I bring this to the market place?
4) Is a today or tomorrow money project? Tomorrow is a long term project that is innovative.

Then close the book on the other projects and come back to them later. Give yourself 30 days to complete the project you have chosen. Make sure you have public accountability. For example, let others know that you are going to launch your website/product on a specific date. Repeat this process after you complete your first project.

If you follow a laser focus approach then your first project will start to take on momentum and make money. 30 days later, your second project will start to make money as well. Remember, to test, tweak and improve your projects.

Don’t Take it Personally!

Being a sales executive or manager don’t take criticism personally. Have courage to accept the criticism and the benefits emerging from criticism. There are four most important steps which can help process can help you learn how to take criticism well. How to accept – and benefit from – criticism
By COLLEEN FRANCIS

Nobody likes to be criticized.

When the complaint is coming from a client or customer, however, criticisms can actually be your best friend.

Whether they’re about you, your company or your product, constructive criticism can be a powerful
opportunity for you to improve your sales technique,
close more deals – and increase your revenues.

The key is to not respond defensively or angrily. Most sales people – like most people period – get their dander up the moment anyone says anything even remotely negative. They get defensive, angry or, in the worst-case scenario, they look for ways to retaliate either overtly or coercively.

The following four-step process can help you learn how to take criticism well, and even begin to use it to enhance your client relationships.

Step 1: Thank the client for their feedback.
Try saying something like “thanks for bringing this to my attention, I appreciate the opportunity you’ve given me to improve (the level of service, my responsiveness, etc).”

Step 2: Ask questions.
People love to teach others what to do. So involve your customer in the solution by asking them what suggestions they have that might help you improve.

Asking questions will allow you and your client to have a constructive dialogue around the issue at hand.

Who knows, the client may even make a suggestion you never thought of!

Step 3: Listen.
Your client is entitled to their opinion. So whatever they have to say – hear them out.

Listen to what is being said, process it, reflect on it and then use it to improve. Try taking notes to show

that what they’re saying is important to you. If your client feels you’re taking their opinion seriously, they’ll be less likely to get angry and more willing to work with you to reach a resolution.

If you listen with the intent to improve, you’ll have an even better chance of understanding their point of view. Use the listening techniques you’ve developed as a sales professional to ask probing questions or ask for examples. And remember: let the client do at least 70% of the talking.

At the end of the conversation, summarize what they’ve said to show them that you understand. Then ask for one more opinion: what they think you should do to improve.

Step 4: Commit to improve.
Finally, always let the customer know that you appreciate their opinions and suggestions – and that you will be taking concrete steps to improve. You can even go so far as to ask whether they’d like you to check in with them again in a couple of weeks.

In the meantime, don’t turn your back on what they’ve said or try to forget about it. Spend some time

looking for any validity in the criticism, and perhaps share the feedback with someone you can trust to tell

you the truth. This will also give you a chance to look at the criticism from a neutral perspective.

One last thought: I’ve seen far too many people pull their ads, cancel programs, postpone events or ruin otherwise profitable relationships just because somebody got offended. So whatever you do – don’t ever take criticism personally.

I know this can be hard to do, especially when it’s coming from someone you like (or someone who signs your paychecks!). The fact of the matter is, if you’re not offending at least one person, you’re probably not pushing hard enough.

The real you may make 2-3% of your clients uncomfortable. That’s okay, because you weren’t going to sell to them anyway. The thing to remember is that the other 97% of your clients really want to see your personality, your style and your communication reflected in your work. If you try to make everyone happy, the only thing you can be certain of is becoming a bland commodity that no one will be particularly excited about.

Only you can give other people permission to make you feel bad. Interpreting criticism as a subjective opinion with a solution instead of a personal rebuke will help you grow, build better relationships and, ultimately, become more successful.

So take the opinions and criticism of others seriously, not personally. Use what they say to create an action plan to upgrade your performance, both personally and professionally.

And don’t worry about being perfect. As the Bard once said – to thine own self be true. Be your best not for your boss, your customers or even your family. Be your best for you.
