Booting a New Business - On the Software Development Highway

Description:

Despite all the promise of business success and prosperity that Software Business holds out, there are still quite a few who find it beyond their reach. Some entrepreneurs simply fail to make the connect between their wealth-creating ability and software. Which is a pity, actually.

Background
Those amongst us, who were born at least before 1970, must have witnessed the dotcom boom of the late 1990s, as well as seen and been affected by the bust that followed soon enough. When the boom began, the media was inundated, day in and day out, with news of dream tie-ups between venture capitalists and just-out-of-college, still-wet-behind-the-ears young twenty-something boys and girls. The entire dream was woven around what the internet could do for folks like you and me. And when the boom busted, boy! How it busted! A quick review of the top ten dotcom businesses that gobbled up millions of VC dollars and took them down the drain really makes interesting, if introspective, reading.

A few years down the line, and the next generation of entrepreneurs and businessmen are ready, yet again, to take the software highway. This time around, however, they have the power of hindsight with them. All the dotcom stories are now neatly chronicled in the form of case studies and enshrined in the libraries of business schools and available on the web to browse through and draw lessons from. Internet, the backbone which dotcom businesses based their strength upon, has quietly gone from strength to strength since the boom/bust. Newer technologies and newer hardware have made the internet more robust, more reliant, and more user-friendly than ever before. Software companies, most notably Microsoft, Yahoo, Google and their ilk, have realigned their manpower and restructured their products, rejigged their business model to make internet their center of gravity, and have come up with far better ways to both transact and seek pleasure on the web than ever before. Blogs, RSS, Merchant Accounts, dropshipping, podcasting, adsense, online local advertising, are terms that have found coinage as a result of some creative footwork by technocrats and savvy businessmen and women like you and me. Marketing channels and consumer strategies are creatively tapping into the newfound interest in computers and the web, generated by the convenience that they bring to day-to-day life. Entrepreneurs are veering once again towards Internet in general; and software development in particular, as a possible option around which to build a business and career.

Bridging Entrepreneur gung-ho With Software
Yet, despite all the promise of business success and prosperity that Software Business holds out, there are still quite a few who find it beyond their reach. The moment you mention S o f t w a r e, the mind immediately visualizes a group of nerds who are furiously banging out some gobbledygook on their keyboard. Some entrepreneurs simply fail to make the connect between their wealth-creating ability and software. Which is a pity, actually.

People who come to me for counseling on new businesses are invariably people with a lot of entrepreneurial vision and grit. They are people with an ingrained perseverance and stamina to withstand the rough and tumble of lean days that a career as businessperson invariably involves. They are people who don't mind dirtying their hands and feet in the trenches, so that they understand the nitty-gritty of their business. These are the guys and gals for whom the golden cage of a cushy, nine-to-five job holds no meaning, and they yearn to fly the skies and test the limits of endurance of their wings. The breed of entrepreneurs is a breed apart. And yet, whenever I would broach the subject of this exciting new opportunity to them, they would baulk at the idea. "But, Software Business, Sanjay? Isn't it supposed to be so damn technical? Can't you suggest something that is more conventional? Something that is within my limits? Something that does not involve a steep learning curve, and where I can invest my time and money and begin to see results in the fastest possible time? Huh?"

Sigh. Here is one exciting opportunity - Software Business. At the time of writing this article, Microsoft is on the verge of launching its most awaited operating system, the Vista, E-commerce is elevating to the next higher level of operations, more and more customers are getting hooked up to computers and the internet, with even mom-and-pop stores looking for a piece of the cake .... And here are these entrepreneurs, the people who can make things happen - the people who have the ability to change the world. And they say - "Tell me about a more conventional business"!

There are so many things that you can do with a computer. The machine that sits on your desktop is like a monster that needs forever more work to do - and it is within the grasp of your ingenuity and creativity to think up things that you can make it do for you. When these "things" are something that positively affect the lives of thousands and millions of ordinary folk - boy, will they flock at your door on all fours! Such a mouth-watering thought! But - this Business of Software development; this programming; this gobbledygook - how does one come to terms with this monster? Heck, I am an entrepreneur, not a programmer!

It was this quest to bridge the gap between a software-illiterate entrepreneur and the exciting, moolah-rich Business of Software, that made me scour the net. And scour I did. Quite a few of the solutions on offer were downright imbecile and premature, and quite a few others I dismissed as thoroughly impractical.

Insights From Ben Prater's Book
It is a book written in 2001. And it was crafted by someone who is already into the thick of the business of developing and selling software, and is willing to share his insights with the rest of the world. This man is Benjamin Prater. His sales page on the web actually begins with a blunt and hyped-up statement - "How to Create Hot Software - Even if you've never touched a line of code!" Marketing spiel, eh? The price tag said USD 97, and I bought it online.

The content has hype in its pages, which is something that I can forgive Mr. Prater for (he has to sell his book, after all). But once he settles down to the core content, the book begins to unveil, layer by layer, all that it takes to set up a neat business in the domain of software. Right from idea inception, through to developing the software, setting up a website, down to selling it and maintaining / upgrading it: in short, the entire works. And best of all, the entire content is presented in a very lucid style, without introducing any business management mumbo-jumbo.

Test Your Entrepreneurial Skills
Which of the entrepreneurs who come to me will I recommend this book? As I mentally shortlist the probables, I think I am looking at the following qualities:

- You must really, _really_ want to build a career in software business, for you really, _really_ see the potential that this domain has in the years to come. Remember, the book acts as a guide. You are being shown the way; but it is you who has to do the walking!

- You must have the openness of mind to absorb new techniques of doing business. If you are used to your established methods of dealing with people and handling transactions, to the point that the thought of trying out something new gives you the goose bumps, then what to talk about software business, any new venture with its own model might be difficult for you to consider. I know I am putting it bluntly, but it *is* a cruel world out there.

Final Word
If you think you fit the bill, go ahead. Your decision might really change your bank balance for the better; take care of the mortgage; help your kids through college ... fulfill your dreams ....

Simple Ideas For Getting The Job You Love!

Description:

Making changes in your career to find a job that fits you and your personality is easy. Here are some steps to help you get the job you love.

Content:

If you are stuck at a job or a career that you hate, you can find a job you love, with some work and effort.

Many people in the world have jobs that they hate and they often see no way out of it. So, they often fail to put their best efforts forward and they only dream about what could be.

There are things each and every one can do. With focus and real effort, it's possible to find a job you enjoy and not have that dread feeling every morning.

In your search for a job you really want, one of the most important things you can do is to use those around you - the people you know. By looking around for job openings in the field that you want to work in and making it known to others, you will find more support than you could ever anticipate.

Sometimes, it might be necessary to take a sideways move, or even take a little less income for a while in your target field, so you can experience new ideas and workload to achieve the bigger future. This enables you to maintain income as you seek your dream job.

You could also supplement your work experience with voluntary work locally that will supplement your skills and hence CV and well, of course, as doing a little good as well!

By telling others what you are doing; the goal you have; the kind of help you could do with, you will make known that that you are available and in the marketplace for the ideal job you seek. This will also significantly improve your opportunities for a great job that rewards you well, both in monetary terms as well as personally satisfying.

Don't panic if the job you want doesn't show up right away! It might take a while for the right one - and it will be worth it!

Yet, there is more than you could do if you are prepared to spend a little money on it. By training yourself and gaining broader experiences, you will have made a great start. Your local job centers; job searches and other recruitment organizations are there to help you. And, of course, you can go online too - where would we be without the internet?

At headhunter.com, they will help you find a job that matches your skills, as well as working hard to ensure that the job is what you want too. And governmental help too, despite the reluctance of some to seek this out, also offer resources and services to help you find and get the most from local opportunities towards achieving your goal.

Sometimes, people need a trigger to make the step-change that is so vital. Being 'let go' or redundant or 'laid off' can all stimulate a realization that the time has come to move on. Don't be tempted with a quick-fix job that replicates the disappointing role you are leaving - take care to think through the direction you really want and plot a course of action.

A strategic plan sounds very high-powered and exotic, but is vital to make sure that you move up a level in what you want from your work. Step-by-step, making regular progress, day by day is the way to succeed, especially when change is significant.

Getting a job you've always dreamt about is a challenge. It takes strong motivation, time and resources - not to mention focus.

The result for you, will almost always be worth that extra work that you put into achieving your goal.

Just think about that dreadful feeling in the pit of your stomach each morning when that realization hits you that you have another day of grind at a job you feel miserable at. Is beating that feeling not a fabulous goal to aim for?

Then you can really get on with the life, and work, to make your dream complete.

Business Networking Techniques

Description:

Clearly business networking is one of the most effective methods of generating and maintaining business, but how do you do it? When you first enter a room full of business people, how do you overcome your fear and work the room? UK Business Networking guru Will Kintish provides a few handy hints.

Content:

Over the last 6years I have presented to nearly 30,000 delegates and a wide variety of audiences and what I have learnt beyond doubt is that about 99% of them don't like business networking.

"I feel uncomfortable entering a room full of people I don't know."
"I get nervous when I see an invitation I ought to accept"

are just two of the comments I hear. Or a third comment,

"It's not for me I get enough business through referrals and recommendations."

Now, that third response always brings me to ask what is the fundamental difference between getting business from referrals and getting it through business networking? Simple answer, the former is reactive marketing the latter proactive.

If you are content to wait for third parties to dictate the growth rate of your business, that is fine. Rely on clients and contacts to make those recommendations. However, if you want to dictate the growth of your business then I believe the most cost effective way to spread your message about who you are what you do and how your clients benefit from buying your services and products then business networking has to be the answer.

Having spent literally hundreds of hours analysing these negative attitudes to business networking, I believe I now have most of the solutions to help overcome people's fears and anxieties. Let me share my findings with you. Can I ask how do you feel when you go somewhere be it business networking or social and you are not likely to know many people. If you are like my seminar delegates or audiences you tell me things like:

"I could make a fool of myself",
"I may not belong here",
"I am going to feel well outside my comfort zone",
"I am likely to be embarrassed",

and the list goes on and on.

I know the key learning point here is virtually everyone feels the same, therefore as a consequence if you feel totally relaxed and comfortable you are abnormal! Don't worry, there are just a few of us still around. Don't misunderstand me but I know the root cause of all these fears, it is your mother's fault. My mother, your mother, everyone's mother, what did she tell us about strangers? That's right never talk to strangers. What she forgot to tell us when we became mature teenagers that there was no harm in safe environments in talking to people we don't know.
I now give you that permission because you will never be rejected. Rejection, that is the overall fear to networking. Zig Ziglar, that famous and international motivational speaker said "Fear false evidence appearing real". Now think about it for a moment. When have you been rejected when you have approached someone at a business networking event or social gathering? My guess is never, unless of course you don't do it in the correct manner.

Imagine a scenario. Your clients have invited you to the opening of their new premises and have been kind enough to include you on their guest list. Let us move into that room. There are 50 people there and the only people you know are the hosts. You said your hellos to them then they move on to greet other guests. Now is the moment when I ask you to remember that 99% of the people in that room had similar misgivings and doubts. So, if it is a bar do, go and get yourself a drink and look round the room and you will see them. There they are standing alone near the wall like Billy and Betty no mates. These people are standing there because of all the fears we have mentioned so far. They feel as if they have 2 ton of lead on each foot weighing them down, unable to move. At best this is due to unease, at worst raw panic. Knowing now how they feel, take your drink, go up to them and from a short distance smile. Ask if you may join them, extend your hand, shake hands and introduce yourself. I think first names only are a great way to start to build a business relationship. Most of us struggle with names, let's keep it simple. At this moment please, please believe me, you will not be rejected. You will never be rejected. They will want to make you their friend for life at this point. They will want to give you a big mental hug and more than likely they will offer up a little prayer of thanks. No one stands on their own by choice, they do it because of their lack of self-confidence, their worries and their misgivings. Even at this early stage you and Billy or Betty will have at least four things in common:

1.You are both fellow guests of the same hosts.
2.You both know no one.
3.You are both in the same business networking event.
4.You both travelled to get there.

There are many easy subjects you could discuss. You could talk about your hosts. You could comment on the room if there is something different about it or you could ask "so Jo, (it's changed now from Billy or Betty Nomates because they have told you their real name) so Jo, how far have you travelled today to get here?"

It does not matter what the opening question is as long as it is something Jo won't have any problem answering!

Believe me when I tell you that unless the person is truly antisocial, and yes it does happen very occasionally, the conversation will begin to flow. More often than not, there will soon be common topics to talk about. It may be where you both live, where your businesses are based, the fact that you are both in the same sort of business. You may both be suppliers to the host. By this time, you will both be feeling much more relaxed.

And finally, a quick tip. If you are nervous about entering a full room at a business networking event, get there early. This gives you a chance to chat to your hosts a little longer and it is likely they will introduce you to fellow guests immediately. This of course, rules out lots of the negative feelings, which we have already covered.

In other articles on business networking, we will talk about:

1.The problem people have with remembering other people's names.
2.How to build relationships through the power of small talk.
3.How to extricate yourself, one person or a group of people
4.How to break into groups
5.How to park people with others, understanding that business networking is all about giving first and receiving second.
6.Finally, how to leave any business networking event with real potential business opportunities.

Description:

The Truth About 'Rich Dad Poor Dad'

Content:

‘Rich Dad Poor Dad' is the phrase created by Robert Kiyosaki used to describe his observations, strategies and tactics on acquiring and retaining wealth and financial independence. Over the past few years he has grown this phrase into a multi-million dollar industry.

His first popular book, ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not!' tells the story of Robert growing up on Hawaii as the child of a Public School teacher. Robert's best friend grows up as the son of a self employed business man.

As the years pass Robert begins to notice the differences in income and lifestyles between his Dad, the ‘Poor Dad' and his friend's Dad, the ‘Rich Dad.' He documents for us how his friend's Dad becomes extremely wealthy over the years and how we can follow the same wealth attaining principles.

The original ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad' book has now led to more than a dozen other books in the same program as well as a very popular board game.

The message of ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad' is that we need to change our concepts of success. The traditional way which, we have all been taught and which we continue to teach our children, is to get an education so that we can get a good paying job so that we can have security.

This may have worked back in the 50's and 60's but today's work environment is much different. I am sure that we all know someone that has been laid off from a job from which they expected to retire. Or worse yet has seen an entire industry go offshore or disappear entirely.

This new millennium calls for a new strategy and tactics for becoming successful and living a stress free, happy life.

Robert Kiyosaki's book has changed my life. After reading his extremely popular book, ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad' and attending a few of his seminars presented by the Learning Annex in New York City I decided to make some changes in how I was doing things.

Most of my working career was as an employee for either very large companies or very small companies. Robert Kyosaki's book and seminar put all the bits of information that I had read and heard repeated thru the years into perspective for me... You will never get rich working for someone else.

Because of Robert Kyosaki's ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad' I set a goal to be self employed. You see I had always wanted to work for myself but never made the commitment until reading that book. I accomplished my goal in 2003 and have never been happier. Since then I have purchased the book for friends and relatives who have now also begun to change their lives.

I strongly recommend reading anything by Robert Kyosaki and if possible attending one or more of his seminars.

Work From Home as an Executive Recruiter!

Description:

Recruiting is a perfect profession for someone who wants to work from home. One can work locally or nationally. Get some insight into how contingency fee recruiters are unique. With some recruiter training you can be successful quickly.

Content:

Recruiting is a wonderful profession. If you have common sense and a desire to do what is right for the candidate and your client you will find recruiting to be rewarding emotionally, intellectually, and financially. Most importantly you can control your schedule and live a balanced life.

Contingency fee Recruiters (Head Hunters) work on commission. Launching your career as a Recruiter can take six weeks to three months. Depending on your chosen industry, (and it’s better to have two industries to recruit in, in my opinion) it is both possible and likely that you can make a placement in your first week or two. Keep in mind the candidate will then need to give two weeks notice, and it may take another two weeks to receive your fee from the client, after your candidate starts work. By the time you receive your first fee you should have a full pipeline and the peace of mind that comes from seeing your paychecks line up in a row from the additional placements you’re making!

I strongly recommend you invest in a recruiter training program that will teach you sound principles and methods. Learning a system will place you in the top 15% of producers. The key to being a top producer includes understanding how to use third party referrals vs. job boards alone. A recruiter training program will help you succeed faster. A recruiter training program will polish your presentation and give you a professional advantage.

(For information on our programs please visit: http://www.rightrecruitertraining.com)

Knowing how to approach candidates who are happily employed and knowing exactly what to say will set you apart from the 85% of recruiters who rely solely on job board resumes. Your compensation will reflect the difference as well. When you know how to use third party referrals, you’re no longer making cold calls; you’re calling contacts complete with phone numbers and some background.

Why are third party referrals so significant? The unemployment rate in the United States is under 5% currently. About 15% of the population puts their resume into circulation on the job boards in the hope a better opportunity will come along. That leaves 80% of the population happily employed and not looking for a job. The best people and top talent are focused on their work. Employed candidates are receptive to calls from “Head Hunters” because it is both flattering and exciting to be identified as someone who is worthy of being recruited.

Too many employers and recruiters end up competing for a fraction of the candidate marketplace when they only seek candidates who have their resumes in circulation. There is a big difference between the best candidate and the ones who are simply available.

Typically, contingency fee recruiters charge 15% to 30% of a candidates' first year wages as their fee. In practice, the recruiting industry is evolving quickly and there are no hard core rules any more on fee amounts. I've worked on searches for partner level attorneys and have been asked to cap my fee at $50,000. I've also placed Loan Originators for $6,500. It's a matter of supply and demand and your comfort level with the "going fee rate." You always have the option of moving on to the next job order if an employer wants you to reduce your fee to an unrealistic amount.

If you have a telephone, a computer (with internet access), knowledge of an industry, and some recruiter training, you can be very successful working at home as an Executive Recruiter. Why not start today? The recruiting industry is on track to grow 50% to 70% by 2014. There is room for you to be both successful and very happy!

What Is A Resume And Why Is It So Important?

Description:

A resume is a one- to two-page document summarizing your career objectives, professional experiences and achievements, and educational background. Content:

A resume is a one- to two-page document summarizing your career objectives, professional experiences and achievements, and educational background. The heading of the resume should contain your name, address and contact information. The body of the resume should be broken into the following sections: career objective, profile/summary, professional experience, achievements, scholastics, and references. Your career objective should be brief, up to two sentences; it should give your potential employers an idea of how you wish to move forward in your professional life. A concise profile or a summary should discuss who you are and how your skills and experience best apply to the job you are interested in. The summary, as well as other parts of your resume, should not contain personal information that discloses ethnicity, sexual orientation, marital status, age, living situations, or any other personal information that is not directly related to your career. Personal profile/summary should only contain a few well-written sentences that convey what you can bring to the table in terms of the specific job. Use this section to attract the employer's attention, but don't go overboard in trying to be creative - stay professional. Your experience listing should include information on one to five jobs you've held, starting with your current or last job, and listing previous positions in chronological order.

The listing should include the date range of your employment, name of the companies or person(s) you have worked for, and the city and state where the place of employment is located (full address of employment is not necessary). List your title and your main responsibilities, with emphasis on duties that are applicable to the type of work you are seeking. Your education should include college, graduate and post-graduate work, as well as any courses or professional certifications that are relevant to your career development. Achievements, volunteer positions, publications and interests should only be listed if they apply to your professional work experience References should be listed if requested; best practices suggest not to list generic statements about references being available upon request as this is understood.

In the competitive, internet-driven world of job searches, your resume represents you to potential employers. It serves as your tool to attract attention, get the interview and/or get a job. A great resume will make you stand out from other candidates by showcasing your aptitudes. Think of your resume as your sales pitch - you need to sell yourself in the best possible way. Invest some time and research into developing your resume. You will want to make sure that your resume is error free - double check your grammar and spelling, make sure that all company and school names and cities are spelled properly. A resume containing errors, no matter how minimal, will give your potential employer an impression that you do not have attention to detail, that you don't take time to double check your work, and that you are a poor communicator. Additionally, make sure that your resume is formatted well. Stick to basic fonts, like Arial and Times New Roman. Keep the font size and color standard; don't use large fonts or multi-colors in your resume. Don't go overboard with bold, italicized, or large-cap text. Keep your format consistent and make sure that the resume looks great when viewed online as well as when printed out. Keep your resume to one or two pages - any additional pages give an impression that you either don't know how to concisely summarize your education and experience, or that you are listing unnecessary information for the sake of taking up space. If you've never written a resume before, reference books, Internet resources or seek assistance from a professional resume writing service. A well-written resume can make a difference between being stuck at your current job and getting an interview to land the job of your dreams.

The First 30 Minutes of the Day

Description:

The first 30 minutes of a workday sets the tone for the entire day. One of the ways that top-performing salespeople separate themselves from others is by effectively using the first 30 minutes of the day.

Content:

The first 30 minutes of the workday will set the tone for the entire day. For most people, the first half hour of the day consists of settling into the office routine by grabbing a cup of coffee, checking the internet, and, of course, chatting with others. Now, I will never be one to say we have to avoid coffee and/or socializing, but I will be the first to say it is advantageous to put these activities aside until later.

One of the ways that top-performing salespeople separate themselves from others is by effectively using the first 30 minutes of the day. It is highly beneficial to your productivity to know exactly what you are going to accomplish during this period. Therefore, you must determine the day before what you intend to do when you first arrive in the morning. For anyone in sales, this means one thing: start the day by making a minimum of three sales calls before you do anything else.

To begin using this strategy, your objective today (and everyday in the future) should be to identify three people you want to call first thing tomorrow morning. There is no better way to start the day than by calling customers. If you are the type of person who arrives in the office early, your phone calls will wind up going straight to voicemail. Great! In fact, using voicemail is an effective way to demonstrate to others that you are a hard working individual and you take your relationships seriously. For those of you who have a large number of clients, this is also a perfect way to personally reach out to them, while not having to wind up in a long, drawn-out telephone conversation.

In addition to beginning the workday more productively, you will also find yourself warmed up to make additional phone calls throughout the day. This will help you overcome a very common problem among anyone in sales: the initial reluctance to make the first call of the day. Many studies have shown that people waste on average 15 minutes each day just getting ready to make that first call. It is ironic to think that you will have made three phone calls in the time it takes the average salesperson to even start making theirs.

An additional benefit of this plan will come when you begin applying this same principle to the first 15 minutes after returning from lunch. Use that time to make three prospecting calls. Again, you will find yourself becoming productive faster and you will be less likely to find yourself at the end of the day looking back to realize that you did not make the phone calls you needed to.

By establishing these habits, you will increase the number of phone calls you make every day from utilizing time that, in the past, was unproductive. Make it part of your routine at the end of each day to identify both the three people you intend to contact the next morning and the three you’ll contact after lunch. Do not fall into the trap of thinking you’ll come up with the names the next day because the chances of you actually contacting those people will fall dramatically.

Career Advice - How Women in Business Can Find Work Life Balance

Description:

Many women who work in full-time careers also try to handle all of the family's household tasks. Doing so can lead to burnout. Discover how to find balance by taking practical action steps.

Content:

An email came to my attention one Saturday morning that set me to thinking about the role of workingwomen. My friend claimed to be exhausted from her workweek, and I have no reason to doubt that. She is a very successful career woman who is a health professional. She was lamenting in candid detail the list of jobs she had to face on her weekend and the resulting lack of any time for herself. The house was a disaster according to her standards (not necessarily those of our local health department). In addition, there were seemingly countless errands to be run. The weekend apparently stretched out before her in a very unpleasant and unsatisfying way.

Like a favorite song from my youth, "It Seems To Me I've Heard That Song Before." Have you?

Her husband is an able-bodied man and her kids are both capable teens. Well, perhaps I need to modify that: her kids are both in their teens. It looks to me like what has happened just sort of snuck up on my friend. She used to do everything when she was home full-time. Everyone was geared to expect that. When she returned to work, at first it was part-time. It wasn't that hard for her to continue her role as homemaker and find ways to keep up with the outside work. However, she now works full-time, but is also trying to remain a full-time homemaker.

I think professional women who find themselves in this predicament need to take time out to assess their situation, instead of just putting up with it. I did. I bought my own replacement. Not a clone. My kids and husband knew that Mrs. Ford wasn't Mom, but it worked. I advertised for someone who would get breakfast when she got to our home in the morning, leave dinner prepared when she left, and during the day clean the house, do the laundry, and be there after school. She wasn't a paragon, but she wanted work, took the job, and did it well enough.

Another way to approach the same dilemma for a family like my friend's that includes teenagers, is to list all of the tasks that have to be done every week and divide them up equally, with no one being the supervisor. If the kids don't want to shoulder their share, they can contribute their allowances so that someone can be hired to perform their tasks.

The point is there is no reason everything should fall on the person who once did the tasks. That was then, but this is now. It's time to brainstorm options and find new ways to distribute the home workload. Workingwomen deserve rest and relaxation time, too.

Hype in Online Business

Description:

Hype has devastating effects on online business. Unless the trend changes 180 degrees, online business will be a horrible environment to deal with.

Content:

Once upon a time when Earth did not commercialize the internet invention, someone published an ad in a national newspaper saying "Send Me $1 and I will show you how to become a millionaire"

People from all the over the place sent their $1 dollar bills waiting to get the secret recipe to become millionaires. A few weeks later they received the following note "Repeat what I have done and you will become a millionaire. I have just become one from the same ad you responded to"

I believe that this person has set the ground for most of today's business ideas that we find on the internet. The idea includes all the usual hype that we read in many sales letters today:

1-A simple task that does not require much of your daily time.
2-A simple system to copy.
3-No sales
4-No phone calls
5-No sponsorships
6-Takes 30 minutes to implement.
7-You can repeat it as many times as you want
8-Start earning thousands within a couple of weeks
9-A minimum investment

As you can see that the idea and the copy did not make a single lie, yet do you think that the ones who received the note appreciated the clever business idea?

I am sure that their disappointed was great although their loss was one single dollar. Now that person was lucky since he did not want to make a business out of this idea. It was a hit and run operation.

The online business world today acknowledges the fact that such an activity is completely unacceptable. But the contradiction between what is known to be as unacceptable and what we are seeing actually happening even from some of the prominent names in the industry is very evident.

We are still seeing messages such as "Start earning immediately," "Start cashing within a couple of weeks." I know that many will have examples of people who actually hit gold within days of their experience, but can we actually take those experiences and make the audience expect such results for any person who ventures into online business.

Today e-mail inboxes are full of messages regarding the importance of building lists. We all know that this activity alone does not happen either over night or in a couple weeks. So how can we start suggesting to a new person that he/she should be expecting to earn money within days?

The funny thing regarding the List Building sales letters is that they are now promising that their systems would help generate massive lists within days as well.

The Mortar and Brick business world is struggling today to become customer centric organizations. Yet all they do is concentrate their resources on developing efficient processes for cost cutting purposes without any consideration to the customer. The dilemma that the offline business world is living today with regard their truthfulness in becoming customer centric organizations is manifested in the online business arena through the wish of avoiding hype.

What I cannot understand is that every single person who is involved in online business is aware of the negative bottom line effects that hype has, still they cannot avoid being involved at least partially in providing hyped promises.

Whether selling to the end user or encouraging affiliates to sell products, a hyped message will dramatically affect business continuity. Therefore, the online business today has a void for a combined offering that has both a solid product/program and realistic and hype-free promises and claims. The first to fill this void will reap huge benefits in the online marketplace.

A well established name in online business will have a better opportunity at filling this void and reaping the benefits than a new person who is still starting in this marketplace. Yet the challenge for those who are well established to change their ways from partially hyped messages to a complete hype-free environment is tremendous. Accordingly, someone who is new to the industry but committed to providing a consistent and continuous hype-free messages, might be able to surprise the well established.

I hope that this article does not come across as an accusation to prominent online business people that they are promoting hype, yet it comes as a red flag to all involved in online business who are shaping the environment and culture of this marketplace.

Is Network Marketing Your Cup of Tea?

Description:

Why some people choose to do network marketing instead of a traditional 9 to 5 job? The answer is dead simple. They want more time and freedom as well as money but are you suitable for it?

Content:

Why some people choose to do network marketing instead of a traditional 9 to 5 job? The answer is dead simple. They want more time and freedom as well as money. Network marketing falls into those categories.

Are you in one of those categories? If you are, the good news is that network marketing will be able to fulfill your demands or wants but it is not for everyone. Most people thought that network marketing is about bringing 3 or 4 down lines and expect to them to expand your organization network. No! It does not work that way. It's about communication, motivation and helping each other out. This is right way to expand your team, it's more than just selling.

The thing is, is network marketing your cup of tea? The bad news is not everyone is cut for doing it. People who are looking for a get rich quick program or people who are lazy, network marketing is not for you.

If you guys have the misconception that network-marketing is get rich quick program or some illegal pyramid scheme, you are totally wrong. Give me a second to correct you, it is a legitimate business model which enables you to make recurring income and get rich (quicker). Illegal pyramid scheme has got nothing to sell, it merely takes someone else money and pays you.

I must agree that the beginning stage of network marketing is the toughest and very often most marketers don't receive fat pay checks. That's just the beginning. To succeed in you need to be determined, hardworking and have a hunger for success. You need to have a goal or a reason! It can be more time that you want so that you can spend more time with you family or it can be more money you want so that you can buy the things you always wanted. You need to have a goal or a reason to work for and that's what ultimately drives you to work towards your success.

Lazy people, I'm not saying that it is not totally for you. Listen close, I was once a lazy student, I don't do my homework and I will always be late for lectures. If I can change from a lazy guy to now a full of drive person, you can do it to.

One thing I learn was that the only person that could stop you from doing anything is YOU. Only you will determine what you want or want to be. If you tell yourself that you want to succeed, you will succeed!

Let me just sum up everything, network marketing is not a get rich quick scheme but a get rich quicker, longer and legitimate program. It's not for lazy people but if you decided to change (just like I did) then be prepare for incredible amounts of growth.

Work At Home Business Idea

Description:

Finding a good work at home business idea can be a job in itself. It can be very difficult for some people to leave their current job and take on the role as somebody that works from home.

Content:

Finding a good work at home business idea can be a job in itself. It can be very difficult for some people to leave their current job and take on the role as somebody that works from home. If you are considering working from home there are hundreds of ideas that you can choose from. Many times the phrase home business will get associated with a certain type of job. Even though there are businesses that have been proven successful when home based, you can turn almost any interest into a business.

Finding the best work at home business idea should be done very carefully. If you do not watch what you are doing and simply jump into something, you may end up finding out that you do not like what you are doing. All this will do is waste your time and money. So making sure that you are 100% on your new idea should be the first step you take. This can be done by assessing your current situation, the status of the business market and determining what you would be good at.

One of the most common work at home business ideas is selling items on eBay. The reason that this is popular is because anybody can get started in no time at all. Unlike some other work at home ideas, you do not need a lot of raw skills to run an eBay business. The only thing that you will need is access to a computer, as well as a way of finding the items that you will sell. This appeals to many people because it seems like an easy to run business idea. Even though you will not have to have a particular skill set, there is definitely a lot of work that goes into this business idea.

Another business idea that runs along the same lines of ebay is opening up your own online store. The main difference between this and eBay is that you will be running the store from your website instead of placing your items on eBay for bid. The reason that many people stray away from this is because there is more work included. Even though you may have to put in more time, you can also make more profits if done correctly. It is all a matter of how much time you want to devote to developing and marketing your online store.

Overall, finding a work at home business idea does not have to be difficult. You can turn any profession into a company that you can run from your home. As long as you do your research and know what you are getting yourself into, you should not have any problems getting started.

10 Steps To A Successful Career Change

Description:

Lists 10 steps change your career successfully.

Content:

The thought of changing careers will cross everyone's mind at some point in time. Yet, not many think that they, confidently, can take that step. While there are many reasons that can be attributed to this noticeable phenomenon, we, for the moment, will confine ourselves to the major reason - lack of confidence.

Lack Of Confidence - A Major Drawback To Successful Career Change

It is not unusual to desire a change in career. However, proper & detailed planning and preparation is essential for a successful change in career. Many times, procrastinating over the matter not just develops the redundancy factor but also creates a sort of fear and hindrance.

10 Steps To A Successful Career Change

Here are the ten steps to changing your career successfully:

1. Preparing To Change: Gather information about your target organizations, job profile, etc. Get additional training and certifications as needed. Get your resume done professionally; highlighting areas to which you can contribute to and your past accomplishments.

2. Expect The Unexpected: Interviewers throw out surprises, sometimes unintentionally, which can catch you off-guard. It pays to know the questions that they might ask. Anticipate even the craziest questions.

3. Consult Those Who Are Already In Your Chosen Field: This gives you a wealth of information on the daily routine, responsibilities and challenges.

4. Changing A Line Of Career Isn't Unusual: The need for cross-discipline skills is no surprise these days. Get across the point that you don't lack all the skills required by the new job even you haven't worked in a similar one. Interpersonal skills, organizational, personal skills are commonly required wherever you go.

5. Brush Up Old Skills And Add New Ones: Comparing your skill set with that required by the target job will tell you the areas you need to concentrate on.

6. Use The Internet: Use Internet job boards to post your resume, which should be carefully crafted specially for this purpose. By crafting, I mean using keywords that are industry-specific jargon.

7. Internet Helps Research A New Industry: Visit websites of organizations, forums or associations in that field which gives invaluable insight before short listing them. Researching job listings by company will definitely help you get an idea of what skills are most in demand.

8. Family Support: Draw confidence and support from your family. When you are down, use them as a sounding board. They may be able to help you come up with new ideas, and they will definitely boost your confidence.

9. Interview, Interview: Even if you are not perfectly suited for a particular position, you should still interview as much as you can. This way, you will know your strengths and weaknesses. It will also help if you do some informational interviewing. This is simply targeting people already working in your field and speaking with them about their jobs.

10. Network. Networking has been the time-tested method for a successful career change. Network with ex-employees and current employees of your target industry. Over 60% of all interviews come as a result of networking.
