Can our Youth Become the Leaders of Tomorrow?

Description:

Taking the right steps to recruit and retain youth today is a big step toward developing the leaders of tomorrow.

Content:

Youth today have never known life without computers and much of their world seems to revolve around their own hi-tech gadgets. They seem permanently plugged in – taking photos of friends with their cell phones, text messaging during class, blogging about last weekend’s party and playing online video games. They are connected at any given moment. They are in control and they use their wide range of skills to make the world work for them – gaining material goods, being savvy consumers and seeing through mass marketing to get what they want.

Are the youth today spoiled selfish children who are going to lead our country and businesses down a deep dark spiral of self-indulgence?

Or

Are they smart sophisticated consumers who understand how the game of business is played and know how to capitalize on it to make it work for the betterment of themselves, their friends and their families?

To try to answer these questions, Chuck Bean and Janet Wright – partners in the strategic direction and training company of Baxter Bean – evaluated the future leaders of tomorrow.

Explain how you think leaders of the future are different from today?

Chuck: They are techno-savvy. Downtime to them is playing a video game or a team activity, and when they engage they want to have control. They were brought up in a world where they have much more control at their fingertips. They are not reliant on other people.

They value time more than we did in the past. They have much more of a relationship with time and a desire to value time. I think that they are going to be much more focused on time invested, rather than just money invested.

For example Volunteerism: There is a movement with volunteerism with youth today but it is not volunteering for cupcake duty. If they volunteer, they want to go off to foreign lands and be really engaged in the volunteering practice. It’s much deeper.

Do you think that young people today are being trained to become leaders?

Janet: I think in some ways that they are, but I think that people may not recognize that they are being trained to be leaders because they have a different attitude and a different approach to it. Even young kids are pretty good at asserting themselves, they are good at voicing their opinions and they are good at dealing with authority figures.

How does technology play a role in training leaders?

Chuck: I think we need to be very careful with technology when it comes to training. I think that technology is required in a learning environment – it is an enabler – but it can’t take the place of the learning content.

You have said “Loyalty plus youth equal leadership.” Can you explain what you mean by that?

Chuck: We have a tendency to think that people sitting on the street corners and the squeegee kids are the disengaged youth but the disengagement is happening with all kinds of young people. It is happening in the homes of all classes – from the underprivileged to affluent.

So the formula of loyalty plus youth equals leadership is built around the idea that we need teach our young people loyalty skills so they grasp a deeper level of appreciation and then find a greater level of personal leadership. That is what it’s all about. And it needs to be at their pace and in their words and on their terms.

Do you believe that youth are capable of loyalty in this age of commercialism, materialism and consumer-centered marketing?

Janet: Yes I do, and I think that loyalty looks different than what we might be expecting it to look like. We grew up with an idea that loyalty was going to look like – you work your butt off for the same company year after year after year. You do what they ask you. If they want you to come in on the weekend, you come in on the weekend. If they want you to be accessible while you are on your holiday, you are accessible while you are on your holiday. That’s a way a lot of people worked. I think the baby boomer generation is still working like that – to some degree.

And to some degree the senior management in a lot of companies today – that is what they are expecting. And it ticks them off when they look over and say to some of the younger staff “I need you to come in on the weekend.” And the younger staff says “Well, I can’t.” That looks like it’s not loyalty. I think that if you asked some of those people – they might say that they were loyal or they might say that they were committed to their job and to doing a good job. But it just doesn’t look the same way. By the older generations they are labeled as not being loyal and by the young generations – they would say “I’m committed.”

How do you break through the noise to make an impact on today’s workers and today’s youth to recruit potential new leaders?

Chuck: There are two ways: organically and synthetically. Let’s face it the future tomorrow is today’s kids. We can just let it happen or we can guide and shape them.

Having said that – how do we break through the noise? Well we just have to push it – push that envelop. We have to get to the kids. Let them have a voice. Let them express their ideas. And don’t just take them superficially.

What does an employer need to do to recruit and retain leaders of tomorrow?

Janet: These are the things that employers can do:

Making sure that they have a good match – spending a lot more time on the interview process. And make sure that they’re getting that person who has the right set of values and the right attitudes – more than the right skills. You can train for skill but hire for attitude.

Employers need to respect diversity – the cookie cutter approach isn’t as effective anymore – because we’ve got a much more diverse population in the workforce. So you’ve got people with all kinds of different family backgrounds, different cultures, and different religions. So respecting that and being able to work with that I think is important.

Understanding what the employees’ goals and motivators are – what is it that gets them out of bed in the morning and into work. The more the employer can understand that, the better able they are going to be to meet those needs and find ways to motivate the staff.

Helping employees grow – helping them learn new skills and gain expertise. If they are growing and if they are challenged – the chances of them looking elsewhere are less.

Rewarding and recognizing success – when people are doing well, they need to hear it. And if things are going wrong, they need to hear that right away as well. And the expectations need to be clearly explained.

Allowing for balance - Recognizing that people do have a life outside of work and allowing for that and not expecting that people are going to sacrifice everything in order to be at work.

Taking the right steps to recruit and retain youth today is a big step toward developing the leaders of tomorrow, but as both Chuck Bean and Janet Wright have indicated, that isn’t enough. Employers need to understand where youth have come from and where they are going. Employers who continue to develop and nurture skills and loyalty in their employees will be the best positioned to have a strong succession plan on the path to leadership.

Make your Mark Online With Global Resorts Network

Description:

When you begin to look at marketing online, you have to go into it with a good attitude. You have to treat your business as a business. But why the internet? Why go into something that quite honestly can be the wild

Content:

When you begin to look at marketing online, you have to go into it with a good attitude. You have to treat your business as a business. But why the internet? Why go into something that quite honestly can be the wild, wild west at times. Take a look at these reasons and you can see why online or internet marketing can be for you.

1. Get entry in the world of Internet There are hundreds of user forums on the Internet where many people of the same field converge and exchange information on a common platform. You can join (it's free!) any relevant forum and start spreading the world around and getting people know about your product and services.

2. You've got mail! Internet is used by people all over the globe and it increases the chances of your website or product posting been viewed by surfers. It is very easy for a surfer to contact you back for more details in case he gets interested in the products and services you have to offer. Queries are hence generated from all over the world in no time.

3. Get connected to people who matter these queries are from people who hold the power to decide. You bypass the staff, receptionist, personal assistant and so many other people and directly get in touch with the person concerned.

4. Marketing online saves precious resources Imagine the time and money involved in getting your advertisement in a national daily or magazines. You also save overheads like staff, transport, fuel etc

5. Instant access to your client With facilities like messenger, you can get in touch with the client on one to one basis any time and as many times as your desire at any place of your choice!

6. Quick Results. The results generated can be amazingly quick. People posting their product details in sites like ebay.com sometimes get very surprised to see bid information in their email, minutes after posting their product details.

7. Greater Reach It is not only the surfers who get to know about your product or services. They further spread the word to their offline acquaintances as well. Hence the number of people to whom the information passes goes up exponentially.

8. Speed. The speed at which Internet works is perhaps unparalleled. With a click of mouse your email reaches to someone thousands of miles away. Gone are the days when people anxiously waited for a business quote to arrive from across oceans.

9. Low Cost If you use a dial-up connection all what you pay is for a local telephone call. If you use broadband, the cost goes down further.

10. Do away with Pride and Prejudice you don't need to worry about your appearance while making a virtual discussion with a client. Internet liberates from any personality prejudices and the factors of caste, creed and sex.

11. You get a great learning experience while in an Internet discussion board you tend to get a lot of enlightenment and information by listening to the discussion of other members of the group. It is certainly a great education. It lets you know the latest update from the market and your stand among the competition.

12. Be in touch wherever you are One of the best advantages of using Internet, as a marketing tool is that your travel does not affect your communication plans. You can always reply to your mails without anyone having to know that you are miles away from your office. Whether you stay at a particular location or not, your communication stays right there!

13. Any modifications can be done easily In case you want to make any changes or modifications to your product offering, be it prices, or any other promotional combo offer, you can do it in no time. This kind of flexibility is not available if your promotional material is printed matter like information booklets.

14. The Internet promises more It is quite possible that your clients do not use any other platform and are hooked to the Internet. You have greater chances to connect to these buyers looking out for various products and services offered at a discussion board.

Tips and Tricks To Making Money Online

Description:

Making money online can either lead you on to the road to prosperity, or fast-track your journey to bankruptcy. We discuss some pros and cons here in this article ..

Content:

Internet Marketing online can be quite a lot of fun, but there are a few tricks of the trade that you will need to master. You will come to know the term "secrets" during your journey into Internet Marketing, but in reality, there is simply no secret at all. It all comes down to how effective your marketing strategies are in promoting your site.

Gurus love the word "secret" because it creates the sense of curiosity and maybe urgency in the mind of the prospect, who may end up parting with his cash to get the item being promoted. Put bluntly, you have to advertise your site so people will know that you even exist. How you advertise, however, is one of the tricks.

If you are running an internet business you have already determined that your potential customers are also online. Regardless of the quality of your product or service, if people do not know you are there, you will eventually become just another failed business.

One of the best methods of advertising on the internet is through affiliate marketing programs where the cost of your advertising is deferred until a customer buys something from you. Through affiliate marketing you provide links, either graphics or text, for other website owners to post on their site. When one of their visitors sees your ad, clicks on it and buys something from you, that website owner is paid a sales commission.

The more external websites that carry a link to your site, the more essentially free advertising you receive through the affiliate marketing program. You can also carry affiliate advertising on your site for related internet businesses and earn a commission on sales from their sites.

Some affiliate marketing companies give you the option of automatically approving others to post links to your site on theirs while others give you the option of approving a site before your link is posted. Just as you can be particular about which companies you link to, you can also be particular about which sites link to you.

There are also numerous opportunities to network with companies as an affiliate and if you are signed up as a member of their site, your income potential can increase dramatically.

For example an online retail site may pay you a five percent commission on sales if you are a free member, but the first level of paid membership has that commission jump to 10 percent at a premium memberships may see the commission go as high as 30 percent or more.

There are also services offering to pay you for taking surveys online, and while the per survey pay may not be high, they generally take little time and you get to give an honest opinion on a variety of topics. Surveys typically pay between $2 and $10 each and take from five to 20 minutes to complete. Making money online filling out surveys will depend on the amount of time you are willing to put into it.

However, having a decent, updated computer and a fast internet connection will be necessary, regardless of any programs you may join, if you plan on making money on the internet.

Finding The Right College Job To Help You Through School

Description:

Students worldwide are finding out that they have to work and go to college at the same time. For some it is the driving reason why they do not attend college. College jobs sound scary, but they do not have to be. With the right planning even you can succeed.

Content:

The balancing act between your college education and your college job is really up to you. While it is nice to have extra money in your pocket, working many hours will reflect somewhat at least in your educational goals. If you are able to successful balance these things then you should look for a way to make each work together.

Many college students have to work while they are in school to be able to go in the first place. If this is you, you may feel overwhelmed with this requirement. You may be able to enjoy it if you are lucky. If you have to work while in school, you will need to make your college classes your first priority. Your probably thinking why should this be your first priority? Well, unless you want keep your current job the rest of your life, your future relies on your education. You still have to meet the requirements of your job as well. College cannot be your excuse for your job and work cannot be an excuse for your college education. It is a tricky road to balance, but more and more people are doing it every year.

If you do not have to work but would like to work on paying off your student loans while you are in school or want the extra money, it still makes sense to monitor just how you will do that. You will want to invest the time in finding the right decision for your situation. Sometimes college is more stressful than it is for others. Then, there are those individuals that take a score of credits and do excellent while working at their job. Depending on your specific needs and abilities, make the right decision.

If you have any doubts on why to work, you can start looking at all the benefits. The fundamental reason to work is to earn money. This money could be spending money for all the things that are not covered by the school that you need for college. It could also be used to pay down your student loans. Money is the number one benefit of working during school.

Next you should consider the experience you can gain. If you plan to gradate with a nursing degree, you can couple this education with a college job that allows you to work in a hospital or nursing home. By doing this, you are able to actually build experience in your field that will look great on a resume. This level of experience may give you the edge on another job applicant out there.

You also need to consider the learning experience. Many college students are not sure if one career is right for them. With a college job, you can get into these fields at entry-level positions and try them out. This may be a great way to find your niche when you finally do get out of school.

The benefit of working during school comes in play right from the beginning. In order to find a college job that will benefit you after college, you must take into consideration what the job is, what your future career is, and if the two can somehow benefit each other. To get started, determine what your future career will be and what skills you may need for that career. For example, if you are attending a business college because you want to work in management, it is helpful to work in a position in which you can move up into management level positions. That may mean starting at the bottom, but making it your goal to move up.

In the example above, you would be able to learn the skills necessary to move through the business. You will also be able to learn not just what that particular job is, but also things like customer service skills, sales techniques, working with others, and eventually how to be a leader in the business world. When you couple this knowledge with your education, you ultimately pull yourself up and above what everyone else is learning. This enables you to become better fitted for the position you will want to obtain after school.

If you stick to your goals and make college your number one priority, you are destined to succeed. I have given you the true hard facts that you will need in order for you to secure your future. Just take your time and put a lot of thought into your future goals so you will be able to receive the best job and learning experience possible to send you right to the top of your field of study.

Internet Marketing Tips - How to Calculate your Conversion Rates

Description:

A guide to calculating your conversion rates.

Content:

Once you start promoting your website you will want to find out the value of each visitor so you can calculate how much you can afford to spend on advertising.

In order to make these calculations you will need to know your total number of sales, gross revenues, total expenses, and unique visitors for a set period of time.

Conversion Rate

To calculate your conversion rate you divide the number of unique visitors to your website by the total number of sales you made in a given timeframe.

So if you got 4,000 unique visitors last month and you made 50 sales, you would divide 4,000 by 50 which equals 80 unique visitors per sale.

To find out detailed traffic statistics check the server logs for your website (contact your host if you need help finding this information).

Net Profit Per Sale

To calculate your net profit from each sale you subtract total expenses from gross revenue and divide that figure by the total number of sales you made in a given timeframe.

So if you made 50 sales at $47 each last month your gross revenue would be $2350. If your total expenditure for last month was $500 you subtract it from your gross revenue which equals $1850. You then divide this figure by the total number of sales you made last month which equals $37 net profit per sale.

Visitor Worth

To calculate the value of each visitor to your website you divide the net profit per sale by the conversion rate in a given timeframe.

So if your net profit per sale is $37 and your conversion rate is one out of 80 unique visitors, you would divide $37 by 80 which equals $0.46 visitor worth.

This means that you can afford to spend up to $0.46 to attract a single visitor to your website. So if you spend $50 on advertising it should generate at least 108 unique visitors to break even (if one of them buys your product), otherwise the campaign has failed.

How Do you Feel About Yourself?

After forty, this is what counts the most!

How do you feel about yourself?
After forty, this is what counts the most!

By Craig Nathanson-The Vocational Coach™

Faith Smith did all the right things—all the things society expected. She attended law school, was involved in television and news production and was a top producing real estate agent.
Suddenly one day a new perspective emerged about her life and what she really wanted.
Today, Faith is the founder of Eyes Cream Shades, quality sun wear for children.

Dolores Arste was good at managing people and teams in the information technology field.
Suddenly a new perspective emerged for her life and she took action.
Today, she provides holistic coaching—helping others deal with their own life changes.

Marcia Brixey worked for the government for 26 years. She had a responsible job and a career. Marcia had a great office but she was miserable and unhappy inside. She also took the leap.
Today, Marcia is the founder of Money Wi$e Women helping women to better manage their money.

It starts with a deep look inside

How do you feel about yourself? Does your work enhance your sense of self or does it bring you down? Have you thought about how your work might be impacting your health, your relationships and your happiness?
So many people just place their work in a large compartment, as if to keep the rest of their life away from their work...I wish it were that simple.

Your work determines who you are

I went out to eat the other day and I noticed a group of maybe 15 people from the same work group out to lunch. It was your typical work lunch where the boss did most of the talking and the people tried hard to act like they were enjoying themselves. Really, they just wanted to rush home, put on their pajamas and crawl under their covers.
Have you ever felt that way?

Stop looking for another job

Instead, create a life that honors who you are and your gifts to the world.
Write down on a piece of paper, "The way I feel about myself is______________."
Change the parts of your life that are no longer useful to you.

So many of us are held prisoner by others; our bosses, our parents, our spouses and society about who we should be and the role we should play out in life.
Just remember, you are the only one who can change the role in your own one act play called life. It doesn't come from thinking you should change or hoping for some better luck.
It comes from creating the life that works just right for you.

Your work is a center point of your life. Last week I met an executive whose company sold electronic parts. I asked him if he loved his work and all his travel. He said he actually didn't like it at all. His plan someday was to spend his time in the mountains doing something around his love of skiing.
I knew what the real problem was. He lived a life of big screen TVs, large trophy cars and lots of toys. He couldn't actually imagine giving any of these up in trade for his dreams.

Don't prostitute yourself to your work

I am sorry but it's the best example that comes to mind. So many of us do this. We rent our lives and our souls to faceless work that we do without question.
And the result is that we feel worse about ourselves and who we are.
The path to a life of integrity is an open and honest review of who you are and what you want.

Are you a job title or a person?

When someone asks you what you do, how do you answer?
Do you respond with your job title or a description of who you are?
There are so many jobs out there and most of them would not be done unless people were paid to do them. After forty, it's time to take a deeper look at doing work that warms the soul; work that solves real problems in the world.

Is your work making a difference in the world?

Only you can answer this question. Most jobs are created only to help an organization turn a profit. If you can't contribute to this mission, then the organization will find someone else, probably younger, who can.
After forty, you are ready to stop these silly games with your life and find your vocation—the work you will start to do and continue doing until you stop breathing.

On the day of my 50th birthday

I write this article on the day of my 50th birthday and frankly, I couldn't think of a better way to start my day. I plan to continue this work for the next 50 years because in some small way, I feel it makes a difference in the world. And along the way it also helps me feel better about myself. Consider making these your goals, too.

How do you feel about yourself?

Only you can answer this question. Only you can start to take action towards doing something about the answers you don't like. Start by examining your work.
This will be the hardest thing you will ever do. But it will also be the most satisfying when you look back over the second half of your life and realize you ignored the status quo and followed your heart.

Health promotion in the workplace benefits not only the company, but the employee as well. Additionally, there is a distinct trickle-down effect as the benefits are transferred from employee to family members. Health promotion in the workplace creates conditions that support and teach the best possible health for the employee. This gives employees a sense of ownership and they learn to work together to form a coordinated action to improve well being. Areas such as health promotion, heart health, nutrition, fitness, recreation, tobacco and alcohol awareness and workplace safety are all areas where health promotion in the workplace is very effective. Implementing such a program gives employees a feeling of being more than just a number. It brings the humanity of companies back to the corporate forefront.

Wellness programs are generally more focused on prevention which facilitates a proactive approach to healthcare. This, in turn, leads to an overall decrease in health care costs. Disease management, health education and health maintenance are all crucial in creating a solid wellness foundation within an organization. There is strong evidence to support the effectiveness of health promotion in the workplace and concur that these types of interventions make a significant difference within the organizational structure. Companies that implement wellness programs for their employees encourage healthy lifestyles for not only employees, but their families as well.

Mental health programs as a part of health promotion in the workplace have been shown to significantly reduce depression in employees. Additionally, companies employing this strategy also enjoy reduced suicide rates and reduced behavioral problems among employees. Mental health programs and stress management classes have also resulted in less domestic aggression and a more positive environment for employees. On a social level, there are fewer learning problems, a significant reduction in child abuse as well as spousal abuse.

Companies that address health and safety issues of employees regarding their work environment do experience a decrease in on the job injuries and fewer worker's compensation claims. Occupational health and safety also helps to decrease the number of deaths and disabilities in the workplace. Time loss injuries are also substantially decreased when workers are adequately trained and these types of workplace health and wellness safety programs are implemented.

Wellness programs and general health promotion in the workplace show employees that the organization recognizes that both the employer and the employee share some extent of responsibility for the employee's health. It shows the employee that their health is of importance to the organization. And it should be important. Healthier employees mean fewer absences and a lower turnover rate.

In short, the benefits of health promotion in the workplace are many. The greatest benefit, however, is in the human aspect of the organization. When the people are taken care of, the company's bottom line remains intact. With reduced absenteeism and health care costs, organizations should seriously consider wellness programs as a viable, effective method for reducing employee related expenses and strengthening their personnel relations within the company. Health promotion in the workplace can cut costs and yield productivity increases, but it is not a cure-all. Businesses must also consider job design, organizational systems, human resource management practices and workplace culture. All these must be conducive to a productive, healthy workplace.

Businesses interested in learning more about the benefits of health promotion in the workplace will find a plethora of information on the World Wide Web. Resources like Wellness Proposals and Welcoa both offer valuable insight about the benefits of health promotion and wellness programs.

Using Autoresponders Effectively to Build your Business

Description:

Autoresponders are powerful tools for follow up if they are used correctly.

Content:

Autoresponders are one of the best tools for online marketing and follow up when used correctly.

Unfortunately, too many people use it for aggressive and hype filled sales pitches. One message after the other just promotes the opportunity and how they can make money if they just join NOW.

This is the wrong way to go about it!

The purpose of your messages should be to let the prospect get to know you. A person who is looking for a business opportunity is also looking for leadership and someone who can help them find financial independence.

This is your opportunity to shine! Let the person get to know you, and tell them your story. You can also mention other people on your team who are successful, but it should be mostly about you. Uppermost in your prospect's mind is going to be what can you do to help them. Your messages should explain very clearly how.

Create the image of regular person that's building a business from home using the internet. The more real you present yourself... just be you... the more you'll connect with people who are much like you.

Tell them about "Attraction Marketing" and how it helps you attract serious quality people and let them know your system is personalized to YOU so that you can leverage the internet to build good relationships with total strangers all over the world.

Your prospect needs to know whatever you are doing is easy to duplicate, whether they live in the USA or Australia.

Explain your marketing system and how it works, and how they can soon be making money if they are coachable and do what other successful people are already doing.

You will find it much more likely that people will want to do business with you if they believe they can use the system and tools you are using.

Introduce them to your business lightly at first, and only after they understand how you make money at it. Your company's sales may have increased 30% the last two years, or may have outstanding management with lots of experience. Perhaps you have an exclusive product not available anywhere else. While these things may be important, it isn't the prospect's biggest concern in the beginning. They first of all want to know if they can be successful at it.

Another point to make is how often should your prospect receive your messages? Most don't join right away, in fact many take a few weeks and sometimes even months.

So you will want to have messages in your autoresponder for at least a year. When the prospect fills out your opt in form the first message is usually delivered right away, then typically the second one the next day.

After that you want an interval of at least 3 or 4 days, and into the second months and beyond once a week or twice a month is plenty. Otherwise, you will be having people opt out rather quickly.

You don't want to give them too much too soon. It is overkill if you do.

Using your autoresponder effectively will allow you to turn what were once total strangers into friends and business partners. It is something the serious marketer simply can't be without!

Team Work- How To Co-Ordinate?

Talk to any person who has worked as a member of a team. You will get to listen some statements like-

1. Nobody will allow you to work in the team.
2. One person wants to take credit for the whole work.
3. I would have completed the job on my own faster than the team.
4. Why do not they tell you and discuss with you about the members of the team beforehand?
5. I will never again work in a team.

And many other such statements will be heard. Why?

Can one escape from teamwork? That looks difficult because no person specializes in all the disciplines. If you have to develop a product, you must have a team of designers, production and marketing staff along with the finance people. That brings us to the matter of co-ordination. The leader of the team is supposed to co-ordinate the work done by others. So the responsibility of failure if any, must first lie with the team leader.

What should a team leader do? The team leader should first draw the goals, time parameters and work process that needs to done to achieve the targets. Ideally the leader should then discuss all these issues with all the members of the team and get their suggestions and approval. What if friction develops at this stage itself? The team leader has to smoothen the process by discussing the pros and cons very thoroughly and make everyone feel as if it was their decision.

The leader must have some qualities for better co-ordination of the team. Give respect to all the members. Give all the members a patient hearing. Listen to their problems and address them as soon as possible. Anticipate friction and arrange to avoid that happening. If this is done, the team will give co-coordinated results. These are some secrets of co-ordination in a teamwork.
